Vanity Play was a BAC Scratch commission.
As he entered the autumn of his years the playwright David Gale offered a dramatic presentation that was the envy of all playwrights and ordinary people. The show that he was often urged to present but always resisted: the Life of David Gale.
David was played by veteran ensemblist Martin Gent, supported by the actors from Gale's earlier smash I Am Dandy. The show examined, in frank and emotional detail, such issues as David's intellectual precocity as a three year old, his remarkable sexual allure as a young man, his widely admired literary debut and his enduring charm.
A BAC Scratch commission.
