“A woozy, wonderful exploration on anaesthesia” The Observer
An altered trip through the different levels of consciousness that emerge while under anaesthesia.
Ether Frolics is powerful theatrical journey created in collaboration with Shunt artists Lizzie Clachan, Hannah Ringham and David Rosenberg. It combines Sound&Fury’s visceral storytelling with Shunt artists’ bold visual style. The show leads the audience from a closed white cubicle on the ward into an altered state of anaesthetized consciousness where 3D animations cause optical tricks, dazzling stagecraft disorientates any sense of space and the performance theatre space slips away to become a strange, surreal operating one. Provocative, disturbing and comic the immersive performance style embraces the history and contemporary practice of anaesthetic medical science and, with its questions of consciousness, invades the mind and stuns the senses.
