This May we will be journeying over to Bristol for Mayfest, a fantastic annual festival of contemporary theatre taking over Bristol's best performance spaces from 17-27 May. Take a look at their website to see the full programme.

We'll be taking two shows to the festival: Belarus Free Theatre's provocative and heartbreaking Minsk, 2011: A Reply to Kathy Acker and Melanie Wilson's evocative sound poem Autobiographer.

Autobiographer

Mayfest, 22-24 May, Bristol Old Vic Studio

Combining a poetic text and bold, electrifying score for voice and sound, Autobiographer draws us into one woman's slowly unravelling mind, in an evocative portrait of a life refracted through the lens of dementia.

“'Autobiographer' is above all a work of vivid poetry about memory, its loss and the beauty that lives on in the ashes of a failing mind." Time Out **** (Critic’s Choice)

“As a reflection of what it feels like to experience dementia, Autobiographer packs a punch.” Guardian

"Wilson's lyrical imagery is deeply affecting... this is powerful and rewarding theatre."  Irish Examiner

Welcome to Minsk - the sexiest city in the world!

Strip clubs, underground raves and gay pride parades pulse beneath the surface of a city where sexuality is twisted by oppression. If scars are sexy, Minsk must be the sexiest city in the world.

“What makes it heart-rending is the knowledge that the events described are true.” The Telegraph *****

With regards to the 5 lgeuaagns I think he was meaning between them all they really CAN speak 5 lgeuaagns. But I think by that he was also meaning that they bring diversity to the music. And I also wondered if he was looking for a band that would work well internationally. With David seeing that he has a lot of support internationally, he might be thinking it would be good to have band members who kinda represent his fans and can teach him about their cultures etc. Blown away' is too strong a word, but I do feel a whole lot of respect and a certain amount of surprise about the thoughtfulness David is putting into this and the elements he is trying to incorporate. I kinda got the feeling that he is trying to bring together something that will be kinda permanent and they can meld together intuitively with each other. A long term vision of things kinda thing. After hearing this vlog, it makes me think all the more, that we should give David the time he needs to really set that strong foundation like he has been speaking of because it sounds like he is really trying to solidify every point and create something really strong and enriching and fabulous for him as a long term artist who is interested in the deeper things of music and also that is special and meaningful for us fans. ♥ him.
